Washington Parks & People’s COMMUNITY GREENING MINI-GRANTS PROGRAM supports community action in neighborhood greening and park maintenance projects throughout Washington, D.C. Community Greening Mini-Grants are awarded to pre-existing or newly formed community groups, schools, park friends groups, and faith-based organizations that wish to conduct greening projects in their community. Grant funds can be used for tools, plant material, equipment or other needed supplies, but may not be used for staffing costs. Cost of outside contractors may be considered.
Parks & People will support garden and greening projects on all kinds of community spaces across D.C., with priority given to underserved areas with the potential for the greatest impact. To encourage a deeper relationship between the land and community, applicants will be encouraged to include edible gardening components wherever appropriate and possible. All applicants are encouraged to use climate-friendly principles and to develop a program that maximizes four-season interest and engagement in the garden or greening effort.
The average award will be between $500 and $1,000. Grants will be considered up to $2,500.
